Community Involvement

ING Investment Management has worked hard to build a position of strength in the multiple societies around the world in which it has a presence. Volunteerism is a key component of the company’s philanthropic and community affairs program. ING IM strives to be a good corporate citizen and supports employees in doing good work for their communities.

Following are a few of the programs that ING Investment Management supports:

Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity International seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.

Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement is a group of volunteers, educators, parents, and other contributors who seek to educate and inspire young people, grades K-12, to value free enterprise, business, and economics to improve the quality of their lives. ING has partnered with Junior Achievement across the country to teach kids the basics of saving and investing.

United Way

United Way is a national network of more than 1,300 locally governed organizations that work to create lasting positive changes in communities and people’s lives. Building on more than a century of service as the nation’s preeminent community-based fundraiser, United Way engages the community to identify the underlying causes of the most significant local issues, develops strategies and pulls together financial and human resources to address them, and measures the results.

CVC/Points of Light

The Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center National Network engages and mobilizes millions of volunteers who are helping to solve serious social problems in thousands of communities.

Greater Hartford Arts Council
The Greater Hartford Arts Council supports and promotes Greater Hartford’s cultural assets and enlivens the life of the community. The Arts Council is a catalyst: for funding, for ideas, for collaborations, for excellence, and for a basic sense of pride in our community.

Chances for Children

ING Chances for Children is a new global community development initiative aimed at establishing ING as a leader in providing educational opportunities for children and youth, both worldwide and in the communities were we live and work.

ING Unsung Heroes Awards Program

The ING Unsung Heroes® program recognizes those classroom heroes who take teaching to new heights and make learning fun. Each year, ING presents 100 grants totaling $240,000 to help fund innovative classroom projects nationwide.

National Teacher of the Year

ING is proud to be the first-ever presenting sponsor of the National Teacher of the Year program.

ING Foundation

The overall goal of the ING Foundation is to put at least 35% of total giving toward financial literacy programs. ING also recognizes the challenges in education in the U.S. and, therefore, the second-largest beneficiaries of financial support are programs and organizations with an educational focus.

ING’s Planet Orange

ING DIRECT has developed the Planet Orange website, which features a Teachers Resource Center, to get kids excited about financial education.

Planet Orange also offers the Planet Orange Financial Literacy Awards which recognize teachers who are committed to financial education. This program is open to 1st – 8th grade teachers in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Arizona.

ING and Operation Hope

In 2004, ING and ING DIRECT were named Sponsor of the Year by Operation Hope, one of ING’s national financial literacy partners. Operation Hope partners with more than 200 financial services companies to replace financial ignorance with something more powerful than money: knowledge.

Among their many projects, Operation Hope often conducts financial literacy tours in which business leaders visit inner city schools to educate low-income students about the importance of money management.
