Private Equity Funds

Private equity is the business of investing in private, non-publicly traded companies. Much private equity investing is done by funds created to invest in developing companies in the venture area or developed companies in the buyout area. Private equity funds are typically ten-year limited partnerships. Returns are generated by the sales or public offerings of portfolio companies. Good private equity funds have outperformed other asset classes by meaningful percentages over an extended period of time.
